How It Works

Pool pH measures how acidic or basic your water is on a scale of 0 to 14. The ideal range for swimming pools is 7.2 to 7.6. Below 7.2, water becomes corrosive and can damage equipment, irritate eyes, and etch plaster. Above 7.6, chlorine loses effectiveness, water gets cloudy, and calcium scale forms on surfaces. pH naturally rises over time due to swimmers, aeration, and chemical additions. Higher alkalinity makes pH harder to change (it acts as a buffer), so alkalinity and pH are closely linked. Always adjust alkalinity first, then fine-tune pH.
