Pool installation costs vary enormously based on type, size, location, and features. Concrete (gunite/shotcrete) pools are the most expensive but most customizable — expect $50,000 to $120,000 or more. Fiberglass shells are mid-range ($35,000 to $75,000) and install faster since the shell is pre-manufactured. Vinyl liner pools are the most affordable inground option ($25,000 to $50,000) but liners need replacing every 5-9 years. Above-ground pools start as low as $3,000 to $15,000. Beyond the pool itself, budget for decking, fencing (required by code in most areas), equipment, and permits. Many homeowners find the final cost is 20-30% more than the pool itself.
