How It Works
Solar pool heating is the most cost-effective way to heat a pool in sunny climates. Unglazed solar collectors (black polymer panels) are mounted on a roof or ground rack and your existing pool pump circulates water through them. The general rule is to size the collector area at 50-100% of your pool surface area — 50% if you use a pool cover, up to 100% if you do not. South-facing roof installations are ideal; east/west installations need about 20% more collector area. A well-designed solar system can raise pool temperature by 10-15 degrees F and extend your swim season by 2-3 months. Systems typically last 15-20 years with minimal maintenance.
