How It Works

Knowing your pool volume is the foundation of proper pool care. Every chemical dosage, filter sizing calculation, and pump recommendation depends on how many gallons your pool holds. The basic formula is Length x Width x Average Depth x 7.48 (the number of gallons in one cubic foot). Average depth is calculated by adding the shallow end depth to the deep end depth and dividing by two. For kidney-shaped or freeform pools, multiply the result by 0.45 since the irregular shape holds less water than a full rectangle.
